Psalm 1 says, “… blessed is he that doesn’t take counsel from the ungodly, but his delight is in the law of the Lord and he meditates on it day and night. “
The word “meditate” actually means to mutter. He, who mutters, thinks about, muses upon, ponders the word of the Lord is blessed. Our concepts and ways of thinking are often contrary to God’s word. If we ponder, muse, or think over the word of God we begin to convert our wrong thinking. Often when one is sick it is hard to believe for healing. Thinking on the word that by His stripes we are healed, or pondering, He Himself bore our sickness, begins to get to our unbelief. Even just thinking about the word itself starts us down a faith path.
We need to chew over the word over and over again. We need God’s wisdom to succeed in every area of our lives. A young man wanted to be a great success in business. He went to university and received a master’s business degree. All excited after graduation he went out and got a job. He got fired and went and got another job. This kept happening even though he had all the worlds’ knowledge in business. He talked to a pastor friend of his who told him he needed God’s wisdom. The pastor recommended he read proverbs every day for at least a month. Today, that same man is a very successful business man and he continues to meditate on proverbs.
Psalm 105 says “thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” I need to find my way in this dark world. I need God’s wisdom to light my way. Psalm 1 goes on to say that one who meditates in God’s word will be like a tree planted by the waters. It will be firmly rooted, ready to bring fruit in its due season. Its leaf doesn’t wither and whatever he does will prosper. Take time to not only read the word but to ponder it. Chew it over and over again. Let it soak into your spirit. Whatever your need is for today look to God’s word, then muse and meditate upon it. His word is true and will produce whatever it says.
